Mrs. Melzie Lee Williams
Mrs. Melzie Lee Williams was born on April 19, 1925 to the parentage of the late Mr. Ephron Davis and the late Mrs. Lizzie Cason Davis. She was the sixth of thirteen children. The family was reared in Donovan, GA.
She attended Dock Kemp School. She joined Pine Grove AME Church at an early age where she was a faithful member. Melzie was on the Usher Board, Church Secretary, and served as Mother of the Church until her health failed.
On January 1, 1947 she married the late Mr. Jasper Williams, and unto this union nine children were born. Melzie was called “Mau” by her children and many others. She worked as a homemaker until all of her children were grown. She worked for a locally owned café in Wrightsville, GA as a cook and baker and she worked as a nurses aide at Wrightsville Manor for several years. She was a fabulous seamstress, loved cooking, watching her favorite soap operas (Young & Restless & Bold & Beautiful), babysitting her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and shopping. She was very dedicated to her family and to serving God.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by a son: Mr. Steven Williams; grandchildren: Mr. Keith Johnson, Mr. MelvinWilliams, Mr. Travis Devero: great grandchild: Mr. Kelvis Whitley; siblings: Mrs. Elnora (Willis) Mason, Mr. Ephron Davis, Jr., Mr. Bennie C. Davis, Mrs. Bessie M. Lucas, Mr. Eula C. Davis, Mrs. Lizzie (Henry) Jones, Mrs. Hattie (Eula) Hall, Mr. Dover Davis, Mr. Wymon Davis, Mr. Elijah Davis, Mrs. Mary Pierce, and Mrs. Daisy (James) Taylor.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters: Ms. Janice Wright, Ms. Gloria May, Mrs. Mahalia (Bobby) Devero, Wrightsville, GA; five sons: Mr. Wade (Betty) Williams, Harrison, GA; Mr. Jimmy (Glenda) Williams, Mr. Jasper (Carol) Williams, Jr., Mr. Kenneth (Jerri) Williams, Sr., Mr. Anthony Williams, Wrightsville, GA; one brother: Mr. Morris Robinson, Atlanta, GA; one daughter-in-law: Mrs. Crecynthia Williams, Tennille, GA; thirty grandchildren; sixty-seven great grandchildren; twenty great great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Community Missionary Baptist Church in Wrightsville, GA with Rev. David Hall officiating. Interment was held at Pine Grove AME Church Cemetery. M. C. Smith Funeral Home was in charge.
