Mr. Johnny Askew


Mr. Johnny Askew, Warthen, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at M.C. Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Sandersville, Georgia. Interment was held in Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery.

Johnny was born on January 9, 1946 in Toomsboro, GA to the parentage of the late Mr. Johnny Askew, Sr. and the late Mrs. Christine Rhodes Askew.

Johnny grew up in Oconee, GA and attended T.J. Elder High School where he was active in sports, with football being his passion, receiving numerous trophies for his performance.

He possessed a love for hunting, gardening and fishing. On many occasions he could be found in his garden taking care of his prized cabbages, collards, tomatoes and peppers just to name a few.

After high school, Johnny moved to New York. During his tenure in that city, he was employed by Shea Stadium. After ten years in New York, he returned to Oconee. It was during this time that he met Ms. Glenda Russell Lundy, who would become his loving wife on August 5, 2008. Although short, but beautiful, they enjoyed nine years together as husband and wife.

He was preceded in death by a son Mr. Johnny “Lumpy” Banks

Mr. Askew is survived by his wife: Mrs. Glenda Askew, Warthen, Georgia. Daughter: Mrs. Angela (Glenn) Jenkins, Queens, New York. Five sisters: Ms. Sallie Bouyer, Willingboro, New Jersey, Mrs. Josephine (John Lee) May, Ms. Lorraine Darrisaw, Oconee, Georgia, Mrs. Ola Mae (Dennis) Ingram, Ms. Annie Darrisaw, Milledgeville, Georgia. Brother: Mr. George (Inez) Askew Sr. Stepdaughter: Ms. Earlene Lundy. Stepson: Mr. Clifford Lundy. Several other relatives and friends. M.C. Smith Funeral Home in charge.
