Mr. Johnny "June" Salter, Jr.
Mr. Johnny "June" Salter, Jr., passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Gwinnett Hospital. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at St. James Christian Fellowship with Pastor Mack Jackson officiating. Interment was held on Monday, February 24, 2020 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on September 18, 1949 in Sandersville, GA to the parentage of the late Mr. Johnny Salter, Sr. and the late Mrs. Marie J. Watts.
Mr. Salter was raised in Sandersville, where he attended T.J. Elder School and graduated with the class of 1968. Johnny joined the Marine Corps the same year and served for four years, active duty and continued in the reserves.
On December 11, 1973, he married Ms. Edna Hayles. He later started to work for General Motors Company which led him to be transferred to Fort Wayne, Indiana where he worked for over thirty years while active in the Marine Reserves. After retirement from General Motors and the Reserves, he moved back to Georgia where he resided in Lawrenceville.
Johnny was preceded in death by his wife: Mrs. Edna Salter; sister: Ms. Dela Mae Smith; and brother Mr. Woodrow Jones.
Mr. Salter leaves behind in mourning, four sons: Mr. Johnny (Louann) Salter, III, Mr. Chris Salter, Mr. Antonio (Patrice) Johnson, Mr. Jonathon Salter, Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters: Ms. Rachael Wilson, Mansfield, Texas, Ms. Colleen Wagenaar, Twin Lake, Michigan; six sisters: Ms. Evelyn Salter, Mrs. Vickie (Jerry) Mathis, Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Minnie Salter, Monticello, Georgia, Mrs. Lillie (Leroy) Mathis Kite, Georgia, Ms. Louwanda Watts, Covington, Georgia, Mrs. Linda (Darryl) Reaves, Sandersville, Georgia; two brothers: Mr. Ulysses (Bernice) Salter, Sandersville, Georgia, Mr. Tommie Lee Tanner, Atlanta, Georgia; fifteen grandchildren: Jayla A. Salter, Johnny Salter, IV, Malika A. Griffin, Jalen Salter, Lalyric Harris, Emily McDonald, Nasir Antonio Johnson, Antonio Swint, Tony Poole, Christian Wagenaar, Allen Maxwell, Richard Castaneda, Marianna Castaneda, Raquel Wagenaar, Nathaniel Butler, Alexandria Butler, Izack Maxwell; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
