Mr. Alton "Duck" Stephens


Mr. Alton Stephens, affectionately known as "Duck", passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 in Valdosta, Georgia. Graveside services were held on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Bobby Warren officiating.

He was born on September 28, 1959 to the parentage of Mrs. Geraldine Larkin Stephens and the late Mr. Nelson Stephens.

At an early age, he joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. He attended the public school system of Washington County. He was employed by Thiele Kaolin before becoming the owner of D. Stephens Pine Straw.

Mr. Stephens was married to Mrs. Nora M. Stephens for seven months.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Ms. Joyce Stephens; and two brothers: Mr. Larry Stephens and Mr. Ronald Louis Stephens.

Mr. Stephens leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife: Mrs. Nora M. Stephens; mother: Mrs. Geraldine Larkin Stephens; six sons: Mr. Demetrix Dunn, Mr. Nicholas Dunn, Mr. Almetrix Stephens, Mr. Starrion Stephens, Mr. Almetro Stephens, Mr. Alton “Bill” Poole; three stepsons: Mr. Datravion Williams, Mr. Amarjae Mitchell, Mr. Der’eon Mitchell; two sisters: Ms. Merilynn S. McCray, Ms. Merica Elaine Stephens; two brothers: Mr. Calvin Lamar Stephens, Rev. Gregory “Ted” (Cathy) Stephens; devoted nephew: Mr. Demetro Stephens; mother-in-law: Ms. Loretha Ghee; two sisters-in-law: Ms. Jessica Ghee, Ms. Juanita Ghee; brother-in-law: Mr. Antonio Mitchell; devoted cousin: Mr. Ricky Hooks; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
