Mr. Johnny Johnson
Mr. Johnny Johnson, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Washington County Regional Medical Center. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at M. C. Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Deonte' Watkins officiating.
The man affectionately known as Johnny was born to the late Mr. Roger and Mrs. Christine Tyrus in Warrenton, Georgia.
Johnny attended the public school system in Warren County where upon his departure from academics, he became a very good heavy equipment operator. He was in very high demand. It was said that his skillful operations were a thing of beauty.
In 1963, as fate would have it, Johnny married his childhood sweetheart, the late Ms. Annie Julia Swint. This union was blessed with one beautiful daughter, Christine affectionately known as “Chrissie.”
Chrissie went on to warm his heart through her confectionary genius by baking his favorite, sweet potato pies, which he called custards. Johnny often called to Chrissie, saying “Bring your daddy a custard.”
Johnny loved to eat mullet fish, white mullet fish eggs, sing and cook. His avid passion was playing checkers. It’s said that Johnny walked around his hometown carrying his beloved checker board, leaving a host of defeated foes in his aftermath, but was once similarly dethroned and whooped by his grandson, Marcus.
Although Johnny was on record as doing many things well, the best decision that he made was to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior in October 2018 and was baptized by his grandson, Minister Deonte’ Watkins that same year.
Johnny departed this life on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Smith Medical Nursing Care Center where he was embraced and surrounded by love.
Mr. Johnson leaves cherished memories to his daughter: Mrs. Christine (Ronald) Thomas; two sisters: Mrs. Burnestine Young, Mrs. Luvenia (Milton) Jones; brother-in-law: Mr. Alton Ruff; three grandchildren: Mr. Quintin Usher, Mr. Marcus Watkins, Minister Deonte’ Watkins; five great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
