Mr. Joseph Lewis Evans, Jr.
Mr. Joseph Lewis Evans, Jr., affectionately known in the community as “Po Joe,” 409 Lovett Street, Sandersville, Georgia passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Union Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Henry L. Tanner officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery.
He was born on June 29, 1962 in Augusta, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Joseph Evans, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mildred Bryson.
Joseph graduated from Washington County High School Class of 1980. He was filled with joy and laughter, always telling jokes and bringing smiles to others faces.
He recently retired from Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, Charleston, South Carolina as a transporter, with twenty (20) years of Federal service, including the US Army National Guard.
Joseph was known as the “Music Man” by his colleagues, as he would play music from the “Southern Soul” station for his Veterans as he transported them from surgery. He was a kind man, who loved to cook and make others laugh. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Mr. Eric Mullins and Mr. Dwane Key.
Mr. Evans leaves to mourn his cherished memories, his children: Ms. Queshana Evans, Savannah, Georgia, Mr. Jazmine (Cierra) Evans, Baltimore, Maryland, Mr. Ricardo Brown, Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren: Trevon Hatcher, Ja’Zariah Evans, Jae’Lynn Seals, Baltimore, Maryland; sisters: Ms. Finease Smith, Ms. Toshi Griffin, Savannah, Georgia, Ms. Dorothy Poole, Tennille, Georgia, Ms. Leila Evans, Trenton, New Jersey; brothers: Mr. Timothy (Janis) Evans, Hephzibah, Georgia, Mr. Stephon Parker, McDonough, Georgia; aunts: Mrs. Bernice (David) James, Detroit, Michigan, Ms. Bobbie Mae Evans, Sandersville, Georgia; very special uncles: Mr. Enoch (Kalenza) Walters, Mr. Tommie Hagans, Sandersville, Georgia; devoted cousin, whom he called his sister: Ms. Darlene Mathis, Sandersville, Georgia; devoted niece: Mrs. Veronica Gonder Minor, Macon, Georgia; several special friends: Mr. Earl James, Mr. Stevie Williams, Mr. Jeffery Miller, Mr. Dexter Forney, Mr. Ronnie Harris, Mr. Eugene Thomas, Mr. Frank Simmons, Mr. Johnnie Spencer; a host of other relatives and friends.
