Mrs. Bertha L. Jackson



Mrs. Bertha L. Jackson, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Heritage Inn Health and Rehab, Sandersville, Georgia. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 16, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. from the lawn of Saint James Christian Fellowship with Pastor Mack Jackson officiating. Interment was held in the Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery.


Ms. Jackson was born on December 27, 1926 to the parentage of the late Mr. James Henry Ayers and the late Mrs. Emma Ayers in Washington County, Georgia. She was the ninth child of twelve siblings.


She attended the public school system of Washington County during her elementary school years. For high school, she attended William Penn High School in Philadelphia, PA.


She was married to the late Mr. Willie Mack Jackson, Sr. of Tennille, GA and to this union five children were born; Helen, Joan, Mack, Deborah and Marcus.


Ms. Jackson worked as a Community Liaison for many years and after that she worked as a nursing assistant at Washington County Medical Center. She lived a life of service and thoroughly enjoyed taking care of others.


At an early age she became a member of Union Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and later became church secretary. In her later years, she joined St. James Christian Fellowship Church, where her son is the Pastor. Here she sang in the Fifth Sunday Choir until her health started to fail.


Ms. Jackson was a true friend to many neighbors, church members and others that needed transportation to appointments, shopping and numerous other activities.


She was preceded in death by her siblings: Mr. Jamie Lee Walker, Mr. Willie Robert Ayers, Mr. Lucious Ayers, Mr. Johnnie D. Ayers, Mr. Seaborn Ayers, Mr. Farris Ayers, Mr. Charlie Ayers.


Ms. Jackson leaves a loving family to cherish wonderful memories of their lives together, including five children: Mrs. Helen (Jerome) Brown, Atlanta, GA, Ms. Ann Joan Jackson Murray, Bronx, NY, Pastor Mack (Valarie) Jackson, Sandersville, GA, Ms. Deborah Jean Seague, Mr. Marcus (Dawanda) Jackson, Lithonia, GA; four sisters: Ms. Erma Horton, Ms. Emma Dee Lawson, Ms. Annie Ruth Shuford, Ms. Alma Jean Prosser; eight grandchildren: Mrs. Taiesha (Cleophus) Clency, Ms. Shawntrice Jackson, Ms. Carmen Brown, Mr. Daryl Rashad Jackson, Mr. Stephen Murray, Mr. Michael J. Jackson, Mr. Jeremy (JaQuita) Jackson, Mr. Joshua Pierre Seague; thirteen grandchildren; a host or nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. M.C. Smith Funeral Home in charge.
