Mrs. Dorothy McArthur




Mrs. Dorothy McArthur passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Sparta Health and Rehabilitation. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Green Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dorothy Haynes officiating.


She was born March 1, 1932 in Washington County, Georgia.


Mrs. McArthur was educated at the Green Grove Baptist Church where she became a member at an early age.


She lived in Sandersville, Georgia until she married the late Mr. Horace Battle in 1950. Horace and Dorothy moved to Pennsylvania. They were married for twenty (20) years. This union was blessed with four (4) children.


She was employed at Dauphin Manor where she worked for many years.


In 1979, Dorothy married the late Mr. Charles McArthur. They were married until his passing in 1989. She moved back to Sandersville, in 2008. After returning to Sandersville, she joined Bay Springs Baptist Church.


Dorothy enjoyed being one of the first divas of the Jones  Sisters. She was never seen without her makeup and beautiful lipstick in place. She wore many styles of hats and sunglasses. She loved flowers and she loved life. Working in the yard in her flowers was one of her favorite things to do. She enjoyed bingo, watching westerns and soap operas. Dot always lived a healthy lifestyle watching her weight, taking vitamins and exercising. She was daring and not afraid to try anything. One of her last projects was painting her brother’s house a few years ago.


She was preceded in death by her son: Mr. Lloyd Tracy Battle; granddaughter: Ms. Nailah Carolyn Lawson; parents: Mr. John Thomas Jones, Sr. and Mrs. Lenora Johnson Jones; brothers: Mr. John Thomas Jones, Jr., Mr. Eddie  Willie Jones, Mr. James Earl Jones, Mr. Harold Jones, Mr. Louis Jones, Sr.; sisters: Mrs. Victoria Lane, Mrs. Juanita Wilson, Mrs. Barbara Watts and Mrs. Laura Brookins.


Mrs. McArthur leaves cherished memories to her daughters: Ms. Dorothy Louise Bouie, Sandersville, Georgia, Mrs. Carolyn  Battle (Kenneth) Fields, Johnstown, Pennsylvania; son: Mr. Horace Ricky (Crystal) Battle, Steelton, Pennsylvania; brother: Mr. Booker T. Jones; seven grandchildren: Victoria Jenkins (Fruiquon), Rikeena Turner, Luann Williams, Tracy Battle, Tyger Battle, Talor (Gretchen) Battle, Jemica Hatcher; sixteen great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. M.
