Mrs. Dorothy Wiggins Harper




Mrs. Dorothy Wiggins Harper passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025 in Toledo, Ohio. Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Samuel Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Adams. officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery.


Mrs. Dorothy Mae Wiggins Harper affectionately known as “Dot,” by her friends and family,  was born in Washington County, Oconee, Georgia on January 1, 1935. She was the fourth of five children of the late Mr. Winston Wiggins and the late Mrs. Mamie Bell Wiggins.


Dorothy grew up in Tennille, Georgia and attended the local Public School System. In her younger years, Dorothy joined Samuel Grove Baptist Church in Tennille, Georgia. It was at this time that she began her relationship with the Lord. She taught the young children’s Sunday School Class and assisted with special church programs.

On December 22, 1951, she married the late Mr. Ellis Harper. In June 1969, along with their four children, they migrated to Toledo, Ohio. After relocating to Toledo, Dorothy and her family joined True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her death. She served on the Lucille Bost Gill, the mothers board auxiliary, and served other duties at True Vine. She was employed with Holiday Inn for several years in housekeeping.


Mrs. Harper enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She adored her grandchildren and delighted in her great grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, attending family reunions, gardening, fishing and for several years caring for her lovable dog Snowy. 


She was preceded in death by her daughter: Ms. Mamie Kay Harper; sisters: Mrs. Bertha Butts, Mrs. Reatha Mack and brother: Mr. Alex “Buddy” Wiggins.

Mrs. Harper leaves cherished memories to her sons: Mr. Eddie (Melinda) Harper, Mr. Willie Harper; daughters: Ms. Gloria Harper, Ms. Grace Moore; grandchildren: Ms. Eva Harper, Mr. Maurice Harper, Mr. Todd Harper, Ms. Iesha Harper, Ms. Latoya Trice, Mr. Malik Masha, Mr. Anthony Ervin; sister: Ms. Elizabeth Harden; special friend: Ms. Adelia Jones; fifteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
