Mrs. Lemmie Felton Reeves-Bailey
Mrs. Lemmie Felton Reeves-Bailey passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Tennille Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Walden officiating.
Mrs. Lemmie Felton Reeves Bailey was born on December 23, 1926 to the parentage of the late Mr. Richmond Felton and the late Mrs. Lemmie Felton in Marshallville, Georgia.
She attended Lamson Richardson High School and continued her matriculation to Albany State College in Albany, Georgia where she was an outstanding basketball player and was voted “Most Beautiful Senior.” While at Albany State College, she was given the nickname “Dimples” because of her smile.
After completing her Early Childhood Degree, Lemmie began her teaching career in Sandersville, Georgia in 1948. There she served the Washington County School System with forty two (42) years of love and passion for teaching. While teaching in Sandersville, she met and married the late Mr. Donald R. Reeves, Sr. Together they raised two sons: Mr. Donald R. Reeves, Jr., Mr. William H. Reeves and one daughter: Dr. Meribah (Ricky) White.
Baptized at an early age, she has been an active member of the church, serving in the choir and on many various church committees. She was an active member of Springfield Baptist Church for sixty (60) plus years, and later joined Tennille Grove Baptist Church.
Lemmie later married the late Mr. Otis Bailey. Continuing her service in Sandersville, she served on numerous club organizations, including a life membership of National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club and a life member of the NAACP and National Association of Retired Educators.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: Mr. Donald R. Reeves, Sr., Mr. Otis H. Bailey; four brothers: Mr. Lunas Felton, Mr. Edward Felton, Mr. Harvey Felton, Mr. Ambrose Felton; and four sisters: Ms. Minnie Bottom, Ms. Carrie Louise Satterwhite, Ms. Bernice Rainbow and Ms. Dorothy Griffin.
Mrs. Bailey peacefully departed this life on Sunday, August 15, 2021, surrounded by her family. She leaves to cherish her memories; two sons: Mr. Donald R. Reeves, Jr., Marietta, Georgia, Mr. William H. Reeves, Austin, Texas; one daughter: Dr. Meribah (Ricky) White, East Point, Georgia; four grandchildren: Mr. Torrey Moore, Mrs. Ansley (Richard) White, Dr. Frances Lemmeca (Dayon) Mack, Mr. Ricky William-Harvey White; five great grandchildren: Lauryn Mack, Bailey Mack, David Mack, Brea White, Rodney White; sister-in-law: Dr. Ann Gayles Felton; devoted cousin: Mrs. Eva Kendricks; caregiver: Mrs. Auri Wimbley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She also leaves a special eight (8) year companion, her Jack Russell Terrier, “Sweetie.” M. C. Smith Funeral Home in charge.
