Mrs. Mary Frances Braswell Walker


Mrs. Mary Frances Braswell Walker, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at her residence. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM at New Light Christian Fellowship Church with Bishop Michael Lawrence officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery.


Mother Mary Frances Braswell Walker, affectionately known as “Mrs. Luke,” peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at her residence.


Mother Mary Walker was born on March 12, 1919 to the parentage of the late Mr. Almarine Braswell and the late Mrs. Mary Mills Braswell.


On December 28, 1936, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Pierce Walker, Sr.


She was a faithful member of New Light Christian Fellowship Church.


Mother Walker was a loving, caring and compassionate woman. She was well known in her community. She never met a stranger. When people had no place to go, she would always take them into her home. She treated them like they were her own children. One of her favorite sayings was “you never know who will give you your last drink of water.”


Mother Walker’s lifelong hobby was fishing. Even in her final days she was still talking about going fishing. She loved cooking and baking sweet potato pies.


She was preceded in death by her daughter: Mrs. Annie W. Wheeler; sons: Mr. Ben Walker, Mr. Pierce Walker, Jr., Mr. George Walker; siblings: Mr. Charlie Brookins, Mr. Roosevelt Braswell, Mrs. Beatrice Braswell Brown; grandson: Mr. Michael Gibson; great granddaughter: Miss Moseka White.


Mother Walker leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Mrs. Jessie Chatman, Mrs. Minnie Lovett, Mr. Willie Walker, Warthen, Georgia, Apostle Tom (Betty) Walker, Mr. Charlie Brown, Sandersville, Georgia, Mrs. Mary Lewis, Mrs. Lillie (Mark) Stewart, Sr., Hephzibah, Georgia; twenty one grandchildren; forty one great grandchildren; twenty eight great great grandchildren; one great great great grandchild; devoted nephew: Mr. Willie J. (Ella) Brookins, Sparta, Georgia; devoted niece: Mrs. Lula M. Miller, Sandersville, Georgia; daughter-in-law: Mrs. Mary M. Walker, Jacksonville, Florida; bonus daughter: Mrs. Brenda Walker, Sparta, Georgia; devoted caregiver: Mr. Tommy Jones, Warthen, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She also leaves her everyday companion of ten years, her rat terrier “Buddy.” M. C. Smith Funeral Home in charge.
