Mrs. Ola Bell Wiggins
Mrs. Ola Bell Wiggins, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Washington County Extended Care Facility. She was 100 years old. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Green Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Bishop Sylvester Jones officiating. Interment was held in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Ola Bell Wiggins was born on September 10, 1923, in Washington County, Georgia to the late Mr. Thomas Jordan and the late Mrs. Annie Bell Roberson Jordan.
She was preceded in death by one son: Mr. Lamar Jones, Sr.; husband: Mr. Winston Wiggins; five brothers: Mr. Robert Jordan, Mr. Isadore Jordan, Mr. Thomas Jordan, Jr., Mr. Ruben Jordan, Mr. Charlie Lee Jordan; three sisters: Ms. Mamie B. Watts, Ms. Florence Jordan, Ms. Flora M. Bell; granddaughter: Ms. Chelsea Burnett and son-in-law: Mr. Willie James Burnett.
Ola Bell attended a one-room school at Green Grove Baptist Church and continued her desire to learn. In her early years she lived during the Great Depression and developed a love for gardening and growing vegetables, skills she used to help feed the family. She was employed in several capacities during her years of employment and retired from Washington Manufacturing Company.
As a young lady, she met and married the late Mr. Willie James Jones. Five children were born to this union: Mr. Robert James Jones, Ms. Betty M. Burnett, Ms. Ola M. Wiggins, the late Mr. Lamar Jones, Sr., and Dr. Bishop Sylvester Jones. Other children entered her life in later years.
Ola Bell was rooted in her faith and committed to grow spiritually. At an early age, she joined Green Grove Baptist Church. She was very active and a member of the choir. Ola Bell later became a member of Faith Apostolic Church under the tutelage of the late Bishop Randy Hagans. There she served on the Missionary Board and in other capacities. She returned to Green Grove Baptist Church and continued to serve until her health declined.
She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ideal Chapter 101 in Harrison, GA. Ola Bell was a lifetime member of the national organization.
Ola Bell will be remembered by her unwavering commitment and devotion to her family. She lived by the phrase “if I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain.” With a warm heart and open arms, she made her home available to family who needed a loving home for a short period of time or for a lifetime.
Ola Bell enjoyed traveling. When she took her first flight alone to New York City she became hooked on traveling. She traveled to Denver, Colorado, Nassau, Bahamas, New Orleans, Louisiana, Detroit, Michigan, Raleigh, North Carolina, Richmond, Virginia, Orlando, Florida among other places.
She leaves a legacy of love and caring to be celebrated by her sons: Mr. Robert (Shirley) Jones, Dr. Bishop Sylvester (Joyce) Jones, Mr. Tommy (Ronell) Wiggins, Toomsboro, Georgia, Mr. Emmanuel Jordan, Tennille, Georgia, Mr. Curtis (Mary) Tillman, Sandersville, Georgia; daughters: Mrs. Betty M. Burnett, Tennille, Georgia, Mrs. Ola M. (Roosevelt) Wiggins, Raleigh, North Carolina, Mrs. Elizabeth Harden, Tennille, Georgia, Ms. Dorothy Harper, Toledo, Ohio; sister: Mrs. Mary Helen Baker, Orlando, Florida; daughter-in-law: Mr. Betty J. Jones, Cincinnati, Ohio; eleven grandchildren: Petra Wiggins Sargent, Terrineya Burnett, Michael Burnett, Shonda Jones, Justin Jones, Tyla Jones, Marla Jones, Robert K. Jones, Lamar Jones, Jr., Tommy Wiggins, Jr., Nicholas Wiggins; twenty two great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a host of nieces including Mrs. Annie Minor, Mrs. Ethel Yorker, Mrs. Jewel Grant; nephews, other relatives including offspring's of the late Mr. A.B. Jones and the late Mr. Thomas H. Jones and friends.
