Ms. Shirley Mae Wiley transitioned on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Mount Olive Baptist Church. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.
She was a mother, sister, aunt, niece, retired police officer, and a genuine friend. She was described by her colleagues as a “sweet, honest, caring, and giving individual who did not have an ounce of hatred in her body.” Her greatest accomplishment and pride of joy was her beloved daughter, Miracle.
Born on July 5, 1952, Shirley was the fourth child of seven born to the late Mr. J.W. and Mrs. Ruby Mae Wiley.
She joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church at an early age.
Growing up, she developed a “green thumb” and a love of the land from her parents. She would later use this knowledge to grow the most beautiful plants and research God’s herbs and spices. Growing up in Warthen, Shirley was a product of the Thomas Jefferson Elder Comprehensive High School and was reared to understand the importance of education. In 1976, she graduated from Fort Valley State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Upon graduation, she moved to Atlanta and secured employment with the Atlanta Police Department. She would later graduate from the police academy and patrol the streets of Zone 5 for the City of Atlanta. Working downtown, she had the opportunity to protect and serve many.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Mr. Bobby Lee Wiley and Mr. Albert Wiley Sr.
